What are the Practical Language Workshops?

Short, themed workshops focused on language you actually need in everyday life.

Each workshop concentrates on a specific real-life situation — for example:

French for homeowners

Talking to tradespeople
-
At the doctor or pharmacy

Dealing with French paperwork

Shopping and everyday conversations

They focus on useful words, phrases and expressions that you can use straight away.

Sessions include real-life scenarios, role play, conversation and practical examples.

They are designed to be useful, informal and fun, rather than academic.
How are they different from conventional language lessons?

Based on real life , the emphasis is on situations you actually encounter.

Less reliance on traditional textbook-style exercises or long lists of grammar rules.

You learn language in context, rather than learning vocabulary that you may never use.

More speaking and interaction, with opportunities to practise realistic conversations.

We use stories, examples and role play to make situations easier to understand and remember.

You can ask questions about situations you've personally experienced and learn how to deal with them in French.

The aim isn't to become fluent overnight — it's to help you feel more confident using French in everyday situations.

Your Health – Practical French for Health & Wellbeing
Knowing what to say when you need medical help can make a big difference to your confidence in France.
This practical language workshop focuses on the French you are most likely to need when looking after your health — from making an appointment to explaining what is wrong and understanding what you are being told.
Workshop starts 5th November 2026.
The workshop will run for 7 weeks
Each session costs just 7.50€
In this workshop we’ll look at:

📞 Making a medical appointment – what to say on the phone and how to explain why you need to see someone.

🩺 Talking to your doctor – describing symptoms, pain, how you feel and how long you have felt this way.
-
💊 The pharmacy – asking for help, explaining common problems and understanding basic advice.

🚑 Coping with an emergency - giving vital information and organising help.
The workshop will involve :

🏥 Useful health vocabulary – words and phrases you are likely to come across in everyday healthcare situations.

🗣️ Real-life conversations – practising what you might actually say in a doctor's surgery, pharmacy or other healthcare setting.

👂 Understanding what you're told – useful questions and phrases for when you don't understand or need something repeated.
-
🚨 When it's urgent – useful language for explaining that you need help quickly.

Our workshops focus on practical language for everyday life. Using realistic scenarios, storytelling and role play, you'll build confidence by speaking and interacting from the very first session.
We like to keep our language groups small so places will be limited.

"Something new is coming..."
This September, Learning Together 87 will be launching a brand-new programme of short, practical French workshops.
Designed especially for English speakers living in France, these friendly workshops are aimed at helping you build confidence when speaking French.
Less formal than regular lessons, these short workshops (4-8 weeks) will provide a fun and informative way to master the language skills needed in the everyday situations many of us face.
